Bodies can respond automatically to stimulation even when the mind feels neutral, uncertain or unwilling. The reverse can happen too. Researchers call this imperfect overlap arousal non-concordance. A physical reaction is not proof of desire, pleasure or consent; only clear communication can establish consent.
Wellness notes
The body is not a mind reader
Physical arousal and subjective desire do not always match - and a bodily response never equals consent.
